Examination of High School Students’ Metaphorical School Perceptions in terms of Various Variables

Abstract

In this study, high school students’ metaphorical school perceptions were examined in terms of gender, school type, grade and monthly family income. A total number of 527 high school students, 209 of whom were female and 318 were male, participated in the study. Data were gathered through “School Perception Scale-SPS”. Results show that school perception of students differ by gender, school type, grade and family income in terms of the sub-scales of the SPS According to findings, females, general high school students, first grade students and the students whose family income per month is low perceive their school as a protecting and improving place. On the contrary, males, Anatolian high school students, second, third and fourth grade students and the students whose family income is high relatively perceive their school as a place of suppression.
