Abstract

In this study the importance of creativity in education is investigated. First of all, we attempt to define the characteristics of present day man. Then the concept of "creativity", which has been attributed to science and art in the past and which has now been extended to all problem solving activities, is explained. The relationship between creativity and problem solving is analysed. The relationship between creativity and the curriculum is discussed, and then creativity training and the place of creativity in the curricula used in our country is investigated. We find that the curricula are insufficient in educating individuals who are creative as required by the present age, and that in our education system the subject of creativity is dealt with indirectly and the goals concerned with creativity are not included in all courses.
